International Volunteer Opportunities For Adults

Thailand Program

13 Days, $2295 (For Ages ~50+)

January 21 – February 2, 2019

This international volunteer opportunity for adults is designed specifically for volunteers over the age of 50 who are looking for a way to explore Thailand safely and comfortably while giving back every step of the way! GIVE’s Thailand Program immerses you in the colorful hill-tribe communities of Chiang Mai where you’ll volunteer at local schools teaching English along with working on organic agriculture projects. GIVE ensures you’ll have a positive impact on the communities you visit through carefully-planned development strategies and social tourism initiatives. Your trip culminates with a multi-day elephant trekking and bamboo-rafting adventure through the jungle! Whether you’re an adult looking for a career break or a senior looking to volunteer abroad, travel off the beaten path and experience a side of Thailand few tourists get to see!

Why Volunteer – Why GIVE – Why Now

the world needs more of you

In a world where human beings are more interconnected and international travel is more accessible than ever before, people like you are in a uniquely privileged position to make a difference. Act on your desire to do good and inspire those around you to take action.

You Need More Of The World

Lots of people travel to Thailand, but very few people get to see it like this. Venture far off the tourist trail on this international volunteer opportunity for adults and experience the Buddhist temples, world-class cuisine, hill-tribe culture, rolling green landscapes, incredible wildlife, and genuine kindness found in the Land of Smiles. Rewrite your definition of adventure, and ignite your drive to explore the world while leaving a positive impact.

Because If Not Now, When?!

Life certainly comes with its fair share of responsibilities, but don’t let them hold you back from turning your travel dreams in to reality. You have the passion, you have the knowledge, and you have the resources to make a difference in the world, so why in the world wouldn’t you?!? Quit telling yourself that you’ll travel someday, and make that day today!

Day 1

Trip Commencement: Group arrives in Chiang Mai. After a warm welcome and orientation from your GIVE guides, the evening is free to explore the city, try out some amazing Thai cuisine and get to know your fellow volunteers!

Day 2

Catch a tuk-tuk taxi to the ancient temple ruins of Wat Chedi Luang to learn about the history of Chiang Mai, Thai culture and the basic principles of Buddhism. After an immersive Thai language lesson we’ll adventure on to Doi Suthep Mountaintop temple for a breathtaking sunset to cap off your second day in the Land of Smiles.

After dinner we’ll gear up for an early morning heading north into the jungles of Chiang Dao National Park towards our home for the next week – the hill-tribe villages of Muang Khong!

Days 3-9

Volunteering in Muang Khong: After breakfast, we’ll head to local schools to begin work on our English education and organic farming projects. Volunteer until lunchtime and then break for a couple hours before returning to the project site for the rest of the afternoon.  In the late afternoon, we’ll head out on a variety of adventure and cultural immersion activities before dinner: Thai cooking and language lessons, hiking to panoramic viewpoints, learning to make local handicrafts, trekking through limestone caves, helping farmers prepare their rice paddies, playing sports with locals and exploring nearby villages!

Day 10

Strap in for a 4x4 adventure through the jungle on our way to the Karen hill-tribe village of Ba Kao Lam, home to our three elephant friends: Pooh Noi, Mae Boon Sri and Mae Boon Yeun. That afternoon we’ll learn how to build bamboo rafts with our local guides!

Day 11

Spend today directly interacting with the most revered creatures in SE Asia – Asian elephants.  Join local mahouts (elephant caretakers) to track elephants through the jungle, perform basic health checks, bathe them in the river, prepare healthy snacks for feeding, and join nightly discussions about elephant conservation in Asia. After lunch, we’ll embark on a bamboo-rafting journey down the Mae Tang River towards the Lahu Village of Pong Ngan. There we’ll celebrate one final night in the jungle, sharing a barbecue dinner with locals and learning traditional dances around the bonfire!

Day 12

Our bamboo-rafting journey culminates with the fastest rapids and best views yet.  Strap in and enjoy the ride or grab a pole and help steer us towards home to Chiang Mai where we’ll have our final dinner together and reflect on our incredible two weeks together.

Day 13

Trip End: All good things must come to an end.  Soak up your last few hours in Thailand before heading home.
