Laos Experience

Hosted by Nicole Isaacs

November 4-11, 2024: $3,195 USD

In partnership with Nicole Isaacs, we’re excited to invite you on an off-the-beaten-path journey into the rich culture and stunning landscapes of northern Laos. Your trip begins in the charming french colonial town of Luang Prabang, where you will get to meditate with Buddhist monks, volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary, hike alongside elephants, and so much more. From there, we will venture to the remote village of Sop Chem, where you will give back to the community and take part in a deeply meaningful Baci Ceremony. Come see for yourself why Laos is the best kept secret in SE Asia and one of Nicole’s favorite places in the world.

Laos Trip Highlights

 Laos Itinerary

Trip Length: 8 Days

November 4-11, 2024

Note: we recommend arriving 1-2 days early so you can get over jet lag and fully immerse yourself in the experience on day one.

Day 1

Arrival & Welcome Dinner in Luang Prabang

Your GIVE guides will pick you up from the airport and bring you directly to our hotel to relax and settle in. That evening we will gather for a welcome dinner and drinks with Nicole and the rest of your fellow travelers!

Day 2

Kuang Sii Falls, Wildlife Sanctuary & Meditation

After breakfast, we’ll head to Kuang Sii Falls to explore a spectacular series of waterfalls, turquoise blue pools and surrounding jungle. Later in the day, we’ll support a local wildlife sanctuary that cares for more than thirty Asiatic Black Bears rescued from brutal conditions in the illegal wildlife trade. Last but not least, we will visit a local temple to learn about Buddhism and practice meditation with local monks!

Day 3

Alms Giving, Living Land Farm & Lao Cooking Class

Wake up early to take part in the Alms Giving Ceremony, a beautiful Buddhist tradition of waking up before dawn to offer fresh food to local monks. After breakfast, we will head to the Living Land Farm – a social enterprise that funds education opportunities for local youth – to participate in planting, harvesting & processing rice with traditional equipment and techniques. After learning how rice is grown, we’ll visit a local cooking school for a Lao Cooking Class and delicious farm to table meal!

Day 4

Elephant Conservation Center & Night Market

Spend the morning at a local Elephant Conservation Center trekking through the jungle alongside Asian elephants who are free to roam in their natural habitat. This is an intimate and ethical experience focused on education and elephant welfare. After dinner, we will head to one of the best night markets in Southeast Asia to peruse locally made handicrafts, clothes, jewelry, and sample some delicious Laotian street food.

Day 5

Travel to Sop Chem & get to know the community

After a beautiful drive through the northern Laos countryside, we’ll embark on a long-tail boat journey up the Nam Ou River to the rustic riverside village of Sop Chem. Surrounded by limestone cliffs, tropical jungle, and a community of welcoming people, this will be our home for the next two nights. We’ll spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the village and learning about our volunteer projects for the following day!

Day 6

Volunteering & Baci Ceremony in Sop Chem

After breakfast, we will head to the local primary school for an epic day of English camp with local students! The goal is to have fun, play games, and get the kiddos excited and confident to communicate in English. In the afternoon, we’ll get dressed and ready for a very special evening. First, the community will wish us good fortune and save travels during a deeply meaningful Baci Ceremony, followed by a locally prepared feast and celebration with the entire village!

Day 7

Return to Luang Prabang & Sunset Dinner Cruise

In the morning we’ll begin our long-tail boat journey down the Nam Ou River followed by a scenic drive back to Luang Prabang. That night we’ll have dinner on a classic Laotian yacht as we cruise along the Mekong River and watch the sunset over the mountains. From there we’ll hit the town to celebrate an amazing trip!

Day 8

Departure Day in Luang Prabang

All good things must come to an end, but these memories and friendships will stay with you forever. Soak up your last few hours in Laos before heading home or off to your next adventure!
