Thailand (40+) Itinerary

Trip Length: 12 Days – Chiang Mai • Mueang Khong • Mae Taeng

Days 1-2

Welcome to Chiang Mai

Arrive in Thailand’s cultural capital and enjoy a warm welcome dinner along the Mae Ping River. Settle in with your GIVE guides and fellow travelers. The next day, dive into Thai culture with an orientation, basic language lesson, and hands-on Thai cooking class. Explore the famous Night Bazaar for local eats, crafts, and souvenirs.

Day 3

From Temples to the Hills

Start the day with a visit to a sacred Buddhist temple to gain insight into Thai history, spirituality, and cultural values. Then, journey deep into the mountains to the remote hill-tribe village of Mueang Khong—your home base for the week. Get settled, meet local community members, and prepare to make a meaningful impact.

Days 4-10

Volunteer & Immerse

Wake to misty mountain views and start your day teaching English in local schools. In the afternoons, roll up your sleeves for hands-on work on organic farming projects that support student nutrition and community well-being. Evenings offer cultural connection and relaxation—join a women’s co-op, take a Pad Thai cooking lesson, float the river, or enjoy karaoke and artisan workshops. Each day brings connection, purpose, and joy.

Day 11

Into the Jungle

Travel to the Karen hill-tribe village of Ban Bpa Kao Lam, where you’ll craft traditional bamboo rafts with local guides. Gather around the bonfire for stories about elephant conservation and ethical tourism—shared by the leaders championing this work in their own communities.

Day 12

Elephant Trekking

Rise early to trek into the jungle with local mahouts and observe semi-wild elephants in their natural habitat. Help feed them herbal supplements and learn how local traditions protect these gentle giants. That afternoon, raft down the Mae Tang River to Pong Ngen village, where your day ends with a celebratory dinner, music, and dancing by the fire.

Days 13-14

Final Float & Farewell

Your final stretch on the river brings jungle views and thrilling rapids. Then it’s back to Chiang Mai for a relaxing Thai massage and one last group celebration. Reflect on the journey, swap photos and memories, and prepare for your departure—or onward adventure.

Unfiltered Traveler Reviews

Hear what it’s really  like to travel with GIVE

Voices from the ground

Hear from the locals and leaders who bring GIVE to life:

Chaue “Tony” Palae

Logistics Coordinator

I have been with this program from the beginning, meeting the directors of GIVE on a white water rafting trip and I’ve been part of the family since. As our Logistics Coordinator, I take pride in welcoming travelers to my hometown and watching them teach and connect with local children. For me, the most meaningful part is seeing travelers grow, form deep bonds, and experience the beauty of these hill tribes.”

Boka Palae

Education Coordinator

I joined the GIVE family in 2019 when my older brother, Chaue, asked me to assist during the jungle adventures. Now as Education Coordinator, I support travelers as they teach English, fulfilling my own dream of becoming a teacher. I love bringing humor wherever I go and I find joy in hearing travelers laugh like they’ve never laughed before; this is the place I am meant to be!”

Kritsada Niamjan

Permaculture Coordinator

I joined GIVE in 2024 to inspire others as the Permaculture Coordinator. Since then, I’ve expanded my role to include teaching yoga, cooking, and self-reliance. I love how the team supports one another. I find that the most meaningful part of this work is watching travelers transform, gaining confidence, purpose, and a passion to make a difference by the time their journey ends.

Chelsey Deacon

Education Coordinator

“I experienced immediate personal growth when I first volunteered with GIVE in Southeast Asia in 2019. The connection to the community, students, and mission inspired me deeply. Returning as Education Coordinator, I find joy in watching our students’ confidence and excitement grow daily. Seeing other travelers transform beyond the program and make a lasting impact in their own communities is what makes this so meaningful!

Wathunyu “Nick” Pu-autri

Lead Guide

I joined GIVE in 2020 after hearing about its impact from my best friend. Now, as Lead Guide, I’m passionate about helping travelers connect with local communities through meaningful cultural exchange. I love seeing travelers support education while learning about Thai traditions, language, and daily life. For me, the most rewarding part is watching travelers leave with a deep appreciation for the culture.”
