Scuba Marine Conservation Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival, Introductions & Welcome Dinner in Krabi
After getting picked up from the airport, check into your new accommodations, enjoy your first of many delicious Thai meals, and get to know your guides and fellow travelers!
Day 2
Rock climbing & Thai Cooking Class
After an opening orientation from your guides, we’ll rope up for a Mindful Movement Rock Climbing Course! Whether you’re an absolute beginner or a seasoned climber, we’ve got routes available for all ability-levels. Our bungalows are tucked beneath some of the best limestone climbing walls in the region, so you can keep practicing throughout the trip. In the afternoon, we’ll learn how to make a traditional Thai dessert and enjoy some delicious southern Thai cuisine!
Days 3-5
PADI Scuba Certification & Open Water Dives
Begin your PADI Open Water Course with a day in the pool learning fundamental skills and how to use your equipment under the direct supervision of a PADI Instructor. Spend the next two days honing your skills and knowledge while diving with your instructor and fellow students off the Aonang Coast. After five dives, you will officially be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver for life!
If you are already Open Water certified, you can complete your Advanced Open Water certification or another PADI Specialty while the rest of the group completes their Open Water course!
Note: you will be required to complete the online theory portion of your course via the PADI eLearning portal prior to your trip. We will send you those details prior to your trip.
Day 6
Reef Conservation & Monitoring Dives
During this course, you will practice your buoyancy underwater to make sure you aren’t damaging coral and other marine life, learn the techniques to correctly identify and fix the most common types of coral damage encountered while SCUBA diving, how to correctly remove discarded fishing equipment from the reefs without damaging the existing organisms, and various methods to conduct reef health surveys. You will then go on two dives to put these skills into practice and conduct reef health surveys! All data collected will be sent to our partners to support scientific research.
Day 7
Shark Conservation & Monitoring Course
After learning about shark evolution, biology and conservation initiatives from shark researchers, we’ll snorkel the vibrant reefs of the Phi Phi islands while observing sharks and other marine life in their natural habitat. As citizen scientists, we will record our observations in a global database that supports shark research and conservation around the world!
Day 8
Mangrove Conservation & Island Homestay
Start the day kayaking through mangrove forests and learning about how critical these ecosystems are to coastal communities and marine life. Along the way, we will collect mangrove seeds and seedlings to transplant at a local mangrove nursery and restoration project that afternoon!
After project work, we will hop in traditional longtail boats and travel back in time to the quiet fishing villages of Koh Klang island. We’ll check in to a homestay for the night and help our lovely hosts prepare a southern Thai feast!
Day 9
Koh Khlong Island Cultural Immersion
After breakfast with our homestay hosts, we’ll make our way around the island in rickshaw taxis to immerse ourselves in a coastal community that thrives off of the marine ecosystems we have been exploring and helping to preserve. Throughout the day, we will experience real southern Thai culture and support local families and businesses with activities like clam-digging, roti cooking classes, natural tie-dye, coconut painting, and other traditional practices that help to honor and preserve this unique way of life.
Days 10-11
Youth Impact Program & Trip End
After an epic week gaining skills, certifications, and hands-on experience to help protect coastal ecosystems, it’s time to spread that knowledge and opportunity to local students! We’ll bring local school groups out of the classroom and into the great outdoors to work hard, play hard, and get inspired to protect this beautiful place they call home. That night, we’ll gather for one final night of reflection and celebration with your new GIVE family!
On day 11, soak up your last few hours in Thailand before heading home, or continue onto your next Southeast Asia adventure with GIVE!

Why volunteer on marine conservation in Thailand?
The reefs are disappearing
Occupying less than 1% of the marine environment, coral reefs are home to more than 25% of all known marine fish species. With more than 27% of coral reefs already destroyed, and the potential to lose most of our world's corals within the next 30 years, we must act now to protect and regenerate these critically important ecosystems before it's too late.
Think global. Act local.
Global threats to coral reefs, such as coral bleaching, ocean acidification, and dead zones, must be dealt with by governments around the world. However, we as individuals can also do our part to protect reefs in the places we live and travel. In Krabi, Thailand, we will be working alongside local nonprofits, marine biologists, and businesses to combat the most direct problems facing local reefs
From land to sea
What happens on land can impact marine environments just as much as what happens in the sea. Healthy coastal ecosystems are a critical buffer of protection for communities of coral, marine animals, and even human beings. That's why we'll participate in mangrove restoration, seagrass conservation, and regenerative farming projects that aim to maintain a healthy connection between land and sea.
