Regardless of your skin color, nationality, gender, religion, or circumstances, we all come onto this planet with one question we will spend the rest of our days trying to answer: Why am I here? Though I’ve only spent nineteen years adding pages to my story, my recent experience volunteering with GIVE has helped me answer that question better than I could have before my trip.

When you watch groups of children joyfully help build the school they will go to one day, you get closer to understanding life.

When you develop relationships with people who you don't even share a language with, but you enjoy and embrace one another because of a common and beautiful goal, you get closer to understanding life.

When you're surrounded by people who cling to happiness as if it's their only possession, you get closer to understanding life.

When you become a family with a group of strangers who flew half way around the world in hopes of making a difference, you get closer to understanding life.

When you are brought to tears by finding out how to to be alive, you are getting closer to understanding life.

When you watch the sun subtlety drown out the stars and claw its way to the sky's surface as you drag your self closer to the roof of Africa (Mt. Kilimanjaro), you get closer to understanding life.

I'm only nineteen, and I'm not going to act like I've got it figured out yet, but thank you, GIVE for teaching me some of the greatest lessons.

Thank you for giving me some of the best life experiences I'll ever have in the time I get to spend on this planet. Thank you for helping me better answer the question of why I am here.
